Rootstock Picker

Every apple tree sits on a rootstock that decides how big it gets. Read the job, pick the rootstock, and watch the tree grow to size.

The real numbers

Apple rootstocks, from the smallest to the biggest tree (grown as a bush)
Rootstock	Vigour	Tree height	Starts fruiting	Source
M27	extremely dwarfing	1.2–1.8m	after two years	RHS: Fruit tree rootstocks
M9	dwarfing	1.8–2.4m	after two or three years	RHS: Fruit tree rootstocks
M26	dwarfing	2.4–3m	after two or three years	RHS: Fruit tree rootstocks
MM106	semi-dwarfing	3–4m	after three or four years	RHS: Fruit tree rootstocks
MM111	vigorous	4–4.5m	after four or five years	RHS: Fruit tree rootstocks
M25	very vigorous	over 4.5m	after five or six years	RHS: Fruit tree rootstocks

Heights are the RHS’s for each rootstock grown as a bush. M25 is “over 4.5m”, so the game draws it a little taller; the jobs are ours, and each answer links to the RHS page it comes from.
